A European industrial ventilation manufacturer met its noise target by cladding the fan housing externally – no internal modifications, no redesign, no high costs.
A radial fan used for local extraction of welding fumes measured 71 dB(A). The requirement was to bring the noise below 70 dB(A) – but the solution had to be low-cost, deliverable as an accessory, and involve no modifications inside the fan.
71 dB(A) measured in a quiet workshop room, 2 m from the fan at 1.6 m height. Background noise did not affect measurements.
Below 70 dB(A) – a strict requirement that needed to be met with minimal cost and complexity.
The solution could not affect the internal components or function of the fan. All treatment had to be external.
The material had to be deliverable as a fan accessory – easy to handle and install on-site.
Sontech recommended cladding both sides of the fan housing externally with Insulation Mat 7 – a self-adhesive bitumen-based insulation mat. No disassembly, no internal modifications, no expensive design changes.
Both sides of the fan housing were clad with Insulation Mat 7 (ISO 7). The self-adhesive surface makes installation quick and straightforward.
No changes were made inside the fan – operational reliability and warranty remained fully intact.
The solution was one of the most cost-effective measures possible – the material was delivered as a standard accessory for the fan.
Post-treatment measurement showed 68 dB(A) – a 3 dB(A) reduction that brought the noise below the specified target.
Sontech delivered a proven product that could be applied directly to the fan housing without special tools.
Self-adhesive bitumen-based insulation mat with a surface weight of 7.5 kg/m². Dampens structural and airborne noise through mass loading. Easy to cut, shape, and install directly onto sheet metal surfaces.
Simple and cost-effective solution: The material was delivered as a standard accessory for the fan. No internal modifications were required – installation was carried out entirely on the outside of both sides of the fan housing.
